A municipal council focused on urban revitalization aimed to create a tranquil green space for residents to connect with nature, exercise, and participate in community activities.

Objective

To design an agricultural hub powered entirely by renewable energy, supporting irrigation, storage, and processing facilities for local farmers.

Scope

  • Install 250 kW ground-mounted solar panels with irrigation pump integration.

  • Power cold storage units, water pumping systems, and small-scale food processing units.

  • Train farmers to manage and maintain the solar infrastructure.

Design Approach and Execution

Concept and Vision

Design Philosophy: Enable sustainable agriculture through renewable energy.
Key Features: Solar-powered irrigation, cold storage, and community training.
Inspirations: Solar farming models from Israel and India’s KUSUM scheme.

Execution

  1. Phase 1 – Site Survey

    • A comprehensive site analysis was conducted across farmlands in Nashik to determine the areas with maximum sunlight exposure throughout the year.

    • The survey also included community discussions with farmers to align energy goals with agricultural needs.

  2. Phase 2 – System Design

    • Based on the survey, a customized 250 kW solar system was designed, integrating ground-mounted solar panels with advanced irrigation pumps.

    • The design accounted for seasonal variations in water demand, cold storage load, and crop cycles.

  3. Phase 3 – Installation

    • Special focus was given to ease of access, minimal land disruption, and safety compliance.

    • Backup batteries were added to ensure continuous operation during cloudy days and evenings.

    • The installation involved setting up durable ground-mounted panels, connecting them with solar-powered irrigation systems, and integrating cold storage units for perishable crops.

  4. Phase 4 – Training & Handover

    • Local farmers and community members were trained in solar monitoring, system maintenance, and energy management.

    • Hands-on workshops were conducted to teach troubleshooting, cleaning panels, and optimizing pump performance.

The Solar Agro Park has transformed farming in our village. With solar-powered irrigation and storage, we save costs, avoid diesel use, and get reliable energy. It has made farming more sustainable and profitable.
